Your car has four major filters, the oil filter, the fuel filter, the transmission filter, and the air filter. These are all really important for preserving your car’s engine. Change them out according to this schedule:
• Oil Filter: change it at least every other oil change. If you change it with every oil change it’s even better, because the old oil filter will contain nearly a quart of dirty oil that mixes in with the new, clean oil.
• Fuel Filter: car makers and dealers will tell you that some of these newer fuel filters never need changing, but we don’t care what they say, it’s smart to have it done once a year. A clogged fuel filter will cause poor engine performance.
• Air Filter: you should check the air filter every two months and replace it when it gets dirty. You can also extend their life by blowing them clean with a compressed air hose
• Transmission Fluid: change out your transmission fluid filter after the first 5,000 miles of driving, and then every 25,000 miles – or two years – after that.
