You have no idea what people put on their key chains! We’ve seen people with car key rings that have baby pictures in frames, bottle openers, rabbits feet, and even flashlights hanging off of them. And that’s just the “normal” stuff; we don’t even want to start with the “strange” stuff we’ve seen on key rings! And this is in addition to enough actual keys to open up a Ford Auto plant for the day shift. Some people maintain that this makes their key rings easy to find and hard to lose, but we gently try to tell them it’s going to cost them a new ignition switch pretty quick unless they lighten things up a bit. Our words of wisdom on this: get a very light keychain, and only put 1) your ignition switch, and 2) your car-clicker-opener-thing on it. Keep all the other keys and their accessories separate. You’ll add years of service to your ignition switch. In fact, you might not even have to replace it at all, which is how long ignition switches were actually meant to last! If you can’t bear to let go of your giant key ring though, here’s a hint: if your ignition key “sticks” or sort of makes a “click” sound when you try to turn on your car, your ignition switch is about to fail. Trust us, please. We don’t want you to be stranded!
