You were smart and winterized your car, right? Of course you did! So now it’s time to un-winterize it! If you haven’t already, change out those snow tires; they’re heavy and they’ll lower your fuel economy. While you’re at it, go ahead and clean up the undercarriage of your car. Even if we had a mild winter, there’s still going to be salt and other gunk caked on under there, and it will eat away at your metal and make your whole engine and transmission run hotter. And while you’re thinking about car maintenance that you don’t usually think about, go ahead and check out all of your fluid levels, the coolant, transmission, differential, power steering and brake fluids. All your fluids have different mileage points where it’s suggested that you check them, but I like to keep it easy by checking them all at once a couple of times a year. That way I don’t overlook one or forget to do it entirely!
